The ABSS Container Blast room & Growell belt feed Rotary Blast Cabinet provide facilities for Steel Shot and Garnet abrasive blasting to comply with AS1627
Abrasive blasting is a surface preparation method that uses a stream of abrasive material propelled against a surface under high pressure to clean, roughen, smooth, or shape it. It’s widely used in industrial applications such as removing rust, old paint, scale, or contaminants from metal surfaces before coating or painting.
AS 1627.4 – Abrasive Blast Cleaning Requirements
The surface to be blasted must be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease before blasting.
The standard sets out cleanliness grades Sa1-3:
Sa 1 (Light), Sa 2, Sa 2½ (Very Thorough), Sa 3 (White Metal)
Surface or roughness profile is measured in microns, this is verified by inspection and surface profile testing, using tools like replica tape, surface profile comparators.
The blasted surface must be coated within 4 hours of blasting to prevent oxidisation of the surface
